'Reflections' - A photographic study by Paul Connor

'Reflections'

Water and reflections in water have always been intriguing to me, This particular photograph was tricky to compose to capture all the elements in the shot.

For me what is important in the shot is the clarity of the reflection in the water and the negative space.

Negative space, or Ma, is the 'empty space' between matter, in this case the sky. My eye is drawn towards this space, basically around the top of the photo, round to the right between the tree and overhanging leaves. Without this space the image would fall apart.

'Without negative space or contrast any picture struggles to capture the imagination in my opinion. I also like to photograph images 'that our ancient ancestors would experience' and endeavour not to include people (in modern clothing) or modern day technology. The sun has to be in a precise play to create this lake effect, the added bonus was the gulls and general lake life.'
